Bats

Bats

The two bats common to New Jersey are the little brown bat and the big brown bat. They are gray to brown furry bodies two inches and larger, with large leathery wings. Bats are typically tree dwellers but they can enter homes through small openings and roost in attics or crawl spaces.

The signs that you have bats include scratching noises or high-pitched squeaking. They will leave droppings near their entry point which are shiny black, 1/8 to ¼ inch in size. There may be an ammonia or musky smell.

Bat dropping can carry disease and bats are known carriers of rabies and other diseases. They can also spread bat bugs (similar to bed bugs) and fleas.

Bats are removed by installing “one-way” bat doors that let them out but don’t allow them back in. Buggin’ Us Pest Control will rid your home or commercial space of the bats and close up all entry points so that they don’t return.
