Recognizable by their distinctive black and white face mask, raccoons are capable of causing considerable destruction to lawns and gardens including digging up large swaths of turf in their search for grubs.  Outside they can also contaminate pools, and damage the exterior of homes and businesses. They are also a threat to the inside of residential dwellings and commercial facilities.  Raccoons often invade structures in search of shelter to birth and raise their young.   When they do enter a residence or commercial property, they often contaminate attics, crawl spaces and chimneys with urine, feces, mites, fleas, ticks and other parasites.  In addition, raccoons can carry rabies.

Female raccoons look for nesting places that are dark such as attics, basements and crawl spaces found in houses, sheds, and barns.  Signs that you have raccoons include, scratching, loud noises or chirping noises coming from your attic or fireplace, or raccoon sightings on your roof or porch.

Raccoon trapping is the only permanent way of getting rid of raccoons. Raccoons must be trapped and removed from the location to completely solve the problem. If the raccoon's entry point is blocked while it is out searching for food and it is separated from its young, it will literally tear a house apart to get back in.
